Once seniors retire, despite the reason, they may start to feel like they have lost their place in the world. Many quickly become depressed and/or feel isolated since they are used to having others energy to thrive off of. Our elders have gone through life being depended on by loved ones so it is very difficult for them to allow a role reversal. They still want to feel needed in the world. Encouraging them to join a volunteer group, some sort of club, or committing to an activity at home could work wonders in stabilizing their health and well-being. All three of these things will also give them a sense of worth and something to look forward to regularly.
